Welcome to my site. I would love to get to know you and tell you a little about myself. My greatest joy is to help others, especially children, get to know God or become closer to Him. My favorite topics of discussion are different aspects of God’s character. I help kids understand a big and complicated God without changing His message.
I also help parents, grandparents, teachers and ministry leaders bring God’s character to the children in their lives. I have written 6 books and a workbook and speak to groups of children or women about these topics. Thanks for stopping by. Be sure to leave me a message in the comments below.
I live with my husband (that handsome man in the above picture). We raised four daughters- and we usually had girl pets as well! We have 6 grandchildren that keep us young. We love to hike in unusual places and go to far away lands on medical missions. (Like the top of the volcano, Mt. Merapi, in Indonesia where we have been twice)

Hello, Laurie – Just happened upon your site and am really appreciating it! I’m teaching 1st graders from Luke 9:37-43a Jesus heals the demon-possessed boy, and research is proving this story is practically avoided among children’s stories. Of course, I’ll focus on God’s power (we are needy and He is mighty) after reading the passage. There’s not a single suggested craft available for this lesson! Any suggestion for a child’s craft demonstrating or depicting the power of God?
Serving with you,
Kathy
Hi Kathy!
Thanks for your question. Two thoughts come to mind. First, If you want to approach the demon-possessed man, you could say that sometimes God’s enemy(ies) had made the man’s mind sick. Not every sickness is directly from God’s enemies. But this particular man’s mind was sick because of God’s enemy. And then you can talk about healing. It just so happens, I am going to do an object lesson on Jesus’ healing next week at an outdoor ministry in a poor section of a neighboring town. I am going to take different kinds of bandages, band-aids, wraps, ointments, etc., and talk about how they treat an illness or injury, but only God can heal it. and Jesus healed many different illnesses, including the man whose mind was sick. I may even get some smiley face band-aids at the dollar store to let them take home to remind them that God heals all of our illnesses. Secondly, if you want to talk about God’s power, I love the one where you take a drinking straw and show how it is easily bent in half. but if you put a large nail (roofing nail) through the center of it, you can’t bend it. Jesus is like that power. He gives us His strength. Hope this helps! Thanks for checking this out. I have another site also called https://courses.lauriedonahue.com. Just wondering if you could give me some info on your book God…Should I Be Baptized? Tell me about the doctrine addressed in the book. I am very interested in purchasing for my son. ie Sprinkling vs immersion; the purpose of baptism; baptism’s role in salvation etc.
Thanks in advance for your time
Janelle
Yes, Janelle. I would be happy to. God…Should I Be Baptized? is a from a “believers’ immersion” perspective. It is for a child 8-12 that has expressed desire to have a relationship with God. It does not teach that salvation is through baptism but rather through the finished work of Christ on the cross. The workbook teaches the purpose is 3-fold. 1. Symbol of our cleansing through Christ. 2. Reminds us of Christ going into the tomb and raising from the dead. 3. Display to others our identifying with Christ. there is further description at: http://www.lifesongpublishers.com/shop/children/child-baptism/
